Preston Gautier becomes Hannan's second two-time state champion

A year ago Preston Gautier won a Division III state championships, and in the next match his elder teammate, Grayson Pennison, won his second, becoming the first two-time state champion in Hannan's wrestling history. This year, Gautier joined Pennison in accomplishing that feat.

Gautier had a very good senior year. He won the Trygg Memorial and the Gulf Shores Scuffle. He was a runner-up at the Bulldog Brawl, the Jimmy Vidrine Division III and the St. Tammany Parish Championships, losing respectively to Division I state champion Aiden Lindsey of Fontainebleau, Division III state champion Luc Johnson or Basile (well, who didn't?) and Lindsey again. His other losses came from Dane Schumacher of St. Paul, but he also defeated Schumacher, ditto re Miles Edwards of Mandeville, and lost to Division I runner-up Gunner Guidry of Holy Cross and Zachary's Sergio Houston, who placed fourth in Division I. He had wins over Covington's Anthony Hernandez (D1 4th), Rummel's Cameron Gandolfi (D2 5th), Kaleb Sanders of Lakeshore (D2 6th) and Chase Smart of North Desoto (D2 4th).

His opponent was third-seeded Jamir Wilson of Evangel, who upset second seed David Massicot of John Curtis, who defeated Wilson in the Jimmy Vidrine Division III. Wilson, a sophomore, won the ARK-LA-TEX Southern and placed second at the David Beeson Memorial. He placed third at the Holleman & Associates (Arkansas?) tournament and fourth at the Jimmy Vidrine Division III and the North Louisiana Regionals.

The sophomore Eagle did well against the defending champion in the first period as no points were scored. Gaytier scored a reversal 20 seconds into the second period and 22 seconds later Gautier recorded a fall.
