De la Salle senior Luke Robertson was running out of state finals.  He was there in 2021, falling to Evangel's Michael Gilreath, and in 2022, succumbing to St.. Louis' Graham Montet.  This year, aside from state finals in which to compete, he barely got to compete at all.  An injury kept him off of the competitive mats for six weeks from mid-November to the end of December.  As such, he only got to participate in 15 matches prior to the state championships while many of his teammates got more than 40.  Robertson, probably wisely, skipped the Louisiana Classic and the Ken Cole.  With a season marred by a six-week hiatus, he really only had one goal, being reaching the Division III state finals again.  His season started out fine as he defeated East Ascension's Gabriel Bonin (D1 2nd) in the Warrior Open finals, and also won the Lakeshore Open, prior to being injured.  On his return he won the Jimmy Vidrine Division III.  That was an important event for him as he defeated his finals opponent, John Curtis' Aden Laborde, 5-1 in the finals.

The senior Laborde won the Mississippi Bulldog Brawl Invitational, placed second at the Vidrine and fifth at the Ken Cole, defeating Shaw's Jason Brown in a Sudden Victory match.  When he lost, it usually was not by much.  He lost a SV match to Brusly's Chris Miller (D2 2nd), and other matches by scores of 8-6, 4-1, 12-10, 3-2, 11-10 and, somehow, and not a UTB match, 0-0.

Robertson shut out Laborde in the first period and took a 3-0 lead into the final round.  Laborde escaped, but a Robertson takedown gave the Cavalier senior five points, and that was all he needed.  Another Laborde escape, and another after a repositioning penalty, and another penalty point gave Laborde on four points, and gave Robertson his title.
