In the 2022 Division III 182 lbs. state finals top-seeded Christian Bergeron of Basile defeated second-seeded Jason Krail of De la Salle in 2:41.  Around 10 months later is was Krail who pinned Bergeron at the John Curtis Division III duals.  Thus, in the 2023 Division III 182 lbs. bracket it was Krail who was seeded first and Bergeron in the second slot.

Krail won the Bulldog Brawl (the Fontainebleau kind), the Trygg Memorial and the Jimmy Vidrine Division III.  He placed second at the Trey Culotta and third at the Louisiana Classic.  His losses were to some quality opponents: East Ascension's Jacob Schexnaydre (D1 1st) at 195 lbs. (twice) and Jesuit's Jackson Colorado (D1 2nd),

Bergeron seemed to start a little "off."  He did win the Jacob McMillan and the Lafayette Metro, but between those he placed ninth at the Trey Culotta.  He was off for almost a full month, from December 30th to January 26th, though.

After a scoreless first period Bergeron took control of the match in the second period scoring an escape, a takedown, and another takedown after a Krail escape.  In the third period Krail only managed an escape, but was also give a point when Bergeron was called for stalling with 30 seconds remaining.  Bergeron is savvy enough to know how to not get a second stalling call against him in 30 seconds, and thus he earned his second state title.
