Jesuit and Teurlings Catholic seesaw over the top spot

The Teurlings Catholic Rebels and the Jesuit Blue Jays vied back-and-forth re team points, and after the semifinals it was the Blue Jays who led by three point.  Jesuit scored 243.5 points to 240.5 points for Teurlings Catholic.  The "Blood Rounds" have kept this close, so the title should be determined in the finals.  The Blue Jays will need an upset, though.

Jesuit and Teurlings Catholic both have seven wrestlers in the finals.  The Rebels have four high seeds those, whereas the Blue Jays only have two  Four of the finals matches are head-to-head Rebel vs. Blue Jay matches, and Teurlings Catholic has the higher seed in three of those match, and in five finals matches overall, which gives a slight advantage to the Rebels.  Yet the Blue Jays have four second-highest seeds and Teurlings has none.  Four head-to-head semifinals matches between Rebels and Blue Jays.  "Blood matches' and bonus points may be the difference come the end of wrestling Saturday night.  Again, keep in mind that the Blue Jays are anchored by top seeds Jackson Calderaro at 215 lbs. and Spencer Lanosga at 285 lbs.

These to have not faced each other this season.  They do have a mutual opponent in Lakeshore's Bryce Latino, though.  Durham defeat Latino 15-9.  Peterson has two wins over Latino: a a 17-9 MD and an 8-4 decision

This is a match between two defending state champions.  Rozas defeated North Desoto's Jacob Kershaw to maintain an undefeated season.  Harris won a Division I title over Grant Grizzaffi of Catholic.  This would be a good time to remind Rozas that one cannot take any Blue Jays lightly with less than a month before the state championship.

Krass has two wins over Boyer this season.   He won a tight 5-3 T1 match to win the Cougar Classic.  Krass pinned Boyer in 2:48 in the consolation finals of te Stewart Schay Black Horse in Tennessee.

The two have met twice this season.  Lavine scored a 17-1 TF in a dual meet in November and 7-0 in the Friday Pool Rounds of the Trey Culotta.

Both of these wrestlers are undefeated against Louisiana competition.  In the 2023 state championships Mire placed fifth in Division I and Simoneaux won a Division II title.

Stewart only losses came early in the season to Zachary's Sergio Houston.  He won his next two matches against Houston convincingly.  Parks is 11-0.   Both defeated Lakeshore's Dominic Joppa.  Davis won his match 3-0 while Stewart won his match 15-4 MD.

Both wrestlers are undefeated.  Simoneaux in a 2023 Division II champion whle Schott placed third at 160 lbs. in Division I.

Macha has one defeat to Brother Martin's Rory Horvath, 14-4 MD.  Mathis has los lost two matches.  The first waas Airline's Ty Parker 10-8, then to Gabe Cuba of Catholic 8-7, Rory Horvath of Brother Martin in 3:03 and to St. Amant's Bradley Anderson 6-5.   Three of Mathis' losses were by a combined total of five points.

The undefeated Clement recently defeated Himel 15-5 MD on January 3rd.  Himels other two losses were to teammate Jackson Calderaro.

In this one the undefeated Jesuit senior is seeded first and this is the only Blue Jays vs. Rebels match in which Jesuit if favored.  James has two losses to Northshore's Samuel Torres to go with his 11 wins.

If anyone can give Jesuit's Spencer Lanosga a match it is Walker's Gabriel Millbern.  Millbern is 28-1 with lose sole loss coming from Live Oak's Gage Kelly in 4:59
