Louisiana nets three All-Americans at Virginia City, two in Reno |

First, may I say that if the photos are not in focus,
that was not me, nor can that be said about the South Park images.
I trust that the text will be in focus…to someone.
A Y-chromosome selection of Team Louisiana |
Over 20 Louisiana wrestlers paid homage to the state in
which I was born last weekend by participation in the High School Coaches
Association Nationals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Three come back as All-Americans, and all in ways that allowed them to be
smiling as they left.
Sam Houston senior Tyson Roach and Teurlings Catholic's sophomore and freshman Alex Rozas and Carter Macha. |
Sam Houston senior Tyson Roach and Teurlings Catholic
sophomore Alex Rozas placed third.
Carter Macha, also of Teurlings Catholic, placed fifth.
While they were gallivanting in my Commonwealth, I found that H & R Block
can be really useful this time of year, had surgery that, according to the
surgeon when he got there, I did not need, got mad a two doctors (not the
surgeon) but stayed in to recuperate a tad.
As expected I realized the weight classes and ages of
only three wrestlers once the NHSCA Nationals were over.
I do not usually get that lucky driving to Breaux Mart.
Have I mentioned lately how much I really cannot stand
FloWrestling? Just to rip on
South Park and probably several hundred uses before Stan got the devil fish
for Halloween, I will refer to it as Aunt Flo.
That is the reference I am using tonight.
(And hey, Mr. Trump, this is an instance where free speech is protected!)
One must understand that after publishing the LA-MS
match photos Tuesday I had a couple of “bad eye” days.
And yesterday a Doc ‘n a Box accused me of being an opiate addict because
I asked for six, six mind you, Percodan for a severely torn oblique.
So, unless collecting rent money I thought it best that I stay in doors
for the lest few days. I have not
practiced with my .45, .38 or .22 in ages, and I just want to be sure to go to a
gun range when I do.
Over the weekend I could click on the “team” section for
each weight class on Aunt Flo, and I would be shown which round the kids were
in, or what place they were wrestling for in their next match.
This is where Aunt Flo reminds me of over-the-counter pain pills.
They all say do not exceed “such-and such” dosage in 24 hours, especially
when one has liver damage. As one
with liver damage, it might be nice to add “or you will bleed internally again,
and how did that work out for you the first time?”
It would have been nice to have been told that I better
write down the names, ages and weight classes in which our kids participated.
But I did not. I remember
several kids who did well in the winner’s bracket, but only the ages and weight
classes of Tyson Roach, Alex Rozas and Carter Macha stuck.
Roach, the senior from Sam
Houston who is headed to UA-Little Rock \next season won a Division I state
championship in 2022, a Division I state championship in 2023 and a Division II
runner-up spot placed third in the seniors 120 lbs. weight class.
Roach won his first two contests by technical falls in
2:17 and 3:30, not event the full length of on match.
He followed those matches with a 10-3 technical fall to reach the
quarterfinals in which he won a close 17-15 match.
In the semifinals he fell to Gabriel Tellez of Florida 7-6. In the
consolation semifinals he demolished N’atani Prado of Las Vegas 7-0 and the went
back to an 18-1 technical fall against Joseph Calvin of Tennessee in 3:53.
Also placing third was
Teurlings Catholic sophomore Alex Rozas, the only Louisiana wrestler to defeat
Roach in the 2023-23 season.
Rozas was in the sophomore 120 lbs. division.
Rozas also won his first two matches by technical falls of 19-4 and 18-3.
Then he won his next two by 15-0 and 16-1 TFs.
He won his quarterfinals match 8-5 but was on the wrong end of a 5-0 in
his semifinals match to the eventual winner of the weight class.
Rozas scored a major decision, 10-0, over his consolation semifinals
opponent and scored a 12-2 major decision to place third.
Freshman Division II state champions Carta Macha of
Teurlings Catholic competed in the freshman 182 lbs. weight class.
Macha started with a fall in ):41 and followed that with an 8-1 decision.
After a 12-2 quarterfinals win he fell in a tight 9-6 match in the
semifinals. In consolation
semifinals he fell in 1:44 but won the fifth-place match via a fall in 3:48
after he was ahead 14-1.
