For three weeks I have tried to write something on
behalf of the Louisiana wrestling community to explain how fortunate I was in
October of 1977 to walk into the St. Martin’s wrestling room.
When the Louisiana wrestling community wrote so many
unhappy posts regarding I did not get press credentials for the 2020 state
championships, I thought those comments were worthy of a t-shirt, with three
columns of comments on the front and back.
I was amazed then. I am amazed x 10 on the supportive comments re my current unpleasantness (not to be confused with the “late unpleasantness” of the 1860s). As an existential deist I only score “Jesus Points” when I put more than one shopping cart into shopping cart drop-off places, or physically deliver mail accidentally sent to my address. So, any ones you care to send my way are very much appreciated and I take very good care of them.
To keep you up to date next week I start chemotherapy on
October 14th and it is lasting at least through November, once a
week. So, I will get to read “The
Last Lion” on the Kindle Paperwhite my daughter bought me for Christmas.
On a related
issue I did not expect to bring this up for another decade, but I probably
should do so now.
At some point I will die. I was happy on the Saturday of the 2022 Louisiana Classic because on that day I officially beat my father’s longevity (it was only 59 and a month but the odds did not fall into my favor until 2011). “Three score and 10” was my limit, but Mom wants to make 100 and that will force me to 72. Then I am dropping that microphone and saying, “I’m out!” Unless Camille still needs me. Sheesh!
I will still die.
When I do, the Louisiana Wrestling News and the Louisiana High School
Wrestling Archives will die with me unless someone offers to pay for them
annually. I think that is about $50
a year, as I plan to incorporate the LWN into the LHSWA.
IONOS hosts the website, and I will pay for the first 10 years (that is
the IONOS limit) but someone else needs to pay for it after that.
The best option I see is for a school to take it over.
Schools tend to last longer than people - heck, Ridgewood is still
viable.
Hence, I will ask Jesuit to take another look, and that Brother Martin, St. Paul, De la Salle, Catholic or Teurlings Catholic consider it. Public schools will probably not be allowed to add such a cost.
Otherwise, on my demise, each website dies.
