| Scottish Rebels and Tigers rule supreme at Billy Duplessis Invitational |
| December 26th, 2025| Written by: Staff writer |
The Riverdale Scottish Rebels and the Terrebonne Tigers took home the team trophies from the Billy Duplessis Invitational, held on December 13th at John Ehret High School.
Girls Summary
The Riverdale Girls squad outscored runner-up host John Ehret 79 points to 46 points. And they did that with only six wrestlers. Naslin Ayala, Layla Higgins, Alyssa Hyde, Chloe Leblanc and Samantha Aroche won individual titles and Gabrielle Jenkins placed second. Some might question the legitimacy of the championship because only one other team, host John Ehret, had more than six wrestlers (Ehret had nine). No other school had more than three. First of all, who cares? One can only wrestle those who come. More pressing an issue for some teams - two weight classes had four girls and one had six. Riverdale girls won all three of those.

Boy Summary
For several years this tournament was dominated by a second-string squad from Brother Martin. In the last four years Jesuit joined the fray. This year, though, in Jesuit's 14 wrestlers entered, two were definitely not second-stringers. At 126 lbs. Michael Barnett is a three-time Division I finalist. Something happened that kept him from wrestling between November 8th until December 10th. With only four matches under his belt, Coach Jon Orillion may have decided Barnett could use a little "seasoning" before their trip to the Tiger Holiday Classic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Blue Jays placed fifth in that event, which was held on December 22nd-23rd. Barnett placed third in the 44 team event. Another Blue Jay was just back from football. The Blue Jays won their first-round game but fell on November 21 to the eventual Division I Select state champions Edna Karr. Isaac Orillion had yet to compete in the 2025-26 season.
Someone different took home the Duplessis trophy in 2025. It was the Terrebonne Tigers, who scored 180.5 points. That was 47.5 points ahead of Jesuit (133 points) and 56.5 points ahead of Brother Martin (124 points). Defeating a Brother Martin second-string team, even if it only had nine wrestlers competing, (again "You cannot beat someone who was not there") is something most public schools would take in a heartbeat. And Terrebonne only had 13 weight classes represented. That meant the Tigers beat a Jesuit 14-man second-string+ team that included Barnett and Orillion, a 2025 3rd-place finisher.

[I still do not like the format of this website. I hope to think of some other way to do this lest I start asking the readers to tell the gender of hermaphrodites.]
