Catholic is going to have to destroy everyone in the consolation brackets if they are to have a chance at wresting for the Division I Brother Melchior trophy. Holy Cross opened a 34.5 point lead over the Bears after the semifinals, and the best the Bears can hope for is 12 bonus points if all three of their finalists win their matches. That also means Holy Cross cannot win a finals match, which is not likely to happen as three of the Tigers' five finalists are #1 seeds.

The Holy Cross Tigers started pulling away from the rest of the field, advancing five wrestlers to the finals, only one of which is not favored to win. To add more to the Tigers attack was that at 1138 lbs. and 144 lbs. a Tiger semifinalist defeated a Catholic opponent.
