Brusly 8'ish
provides perfect mid-November wrestling excursion |
November 18th, 2020 |
Written by: Staff Writer |
The Brusly 8'ish, held on Saturday, November 14th at Brusly High
School, may have been smaller than desired, having only six teams rather than
nine participating, but it was just fine for a mid-November Saturday event.
Approximately 50 wrestlers received two or more matches and nobody had to drive
very far to be there. Competing in the new Brusly gymnasium were St.
Amant, Live Oak, Baton Rouge and Lafayette high schools. (Actually, the
editor drove farther than any of the teams for the event.)
Some weight classes only had two competitors. That was plenty at 182
lbs. for St. Amant's Fred Garrison and Baton Rouge's Kade Moran, who went to a
tie-breaker match to determine the winner (Garrison). There were eight in
the 138 lbs. weight class, which had two entries each from Brusly, Lafayette and
St. Amant. It was won, and rather handily, by Lafayette sophomore Jensen
Bergeron, who veteran senior Jace Chenevert of St. Amant twice.
Jensen flew under the LWN's radar last year, but not for a lack of trying.
He had a record of 24-31 as a freshman and placed fourth at the Brusly 8 and
Lafayette Metro, fifth at the Rayne Invitational and eighth at the Trey Culotta.
Opponents who may have defeated him last year might note that Chenevert did
also, in 0:18.
Despite
how the photographs below may be interpreted it was run
efficiently and quickly.
Any appearance of inefficiency is only due to the time adjustments that had to
be made because weight classes ranged between two and eight participants.
Thus, some weight classes with fewer wrestlers (and thus matches) were not
photographed).
