2021 Louisiana Classic preliminary seeds

Catholic High School coach Ben DiPalma released a preliminary set of seeds for this weekend's 49th Louisiana Classic today. Earlier, head coach Tommy Prochaska mention on social media that seeding would be very difficult this year.

The LWN editor disagrees with that statement. The seeding must have been excruciatingly, as in finger-nails being ripped out after one is drawn-and-quartered during a Nicholas Cage action-movies film fest, difficult. The data needed just does not exist as it has in previous seasons due to the vast number of tournaments and dual meets which were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Knowing the weight classes in which the entrants will compete does not really make it any easier a task, and more statistical weight ("statistical" being a hard word to apply here) was given to matches outside of those weight classes than has been in the past. Dropping down one weight class is something seeding committees are accustomed to. Yet when a wrestler's sole loss is to a defending Division I state champion, and that wrestler is competing not one, not two, but three weight classes lighter? Seed 'dat.

The LWN editor tried seeding the event last week and simply gave up after a few hours. He was only attempting to seed four wrestlers. The seeding committee for the LACL seeded eight per weight class. Please give 'em a break if you happen to disagree with their decisions. Nothing has been easy this season. Yet, and not surprisingly, Louisiana wrestling has persevered when other states had to delay or cancel their seasons. Take solace in the silver linings.
