Weight Class Synopsis

Just as at 120 lbs. a North Desoto wrestler messed-up the seeding here at the Louisiana Classic.  There, Grant Nastasi of St. Paul and Peter Kelly of Catholic were supposed to meet in the finals to see if a December 9th, 5-3 win by Nastasi over Kelly was legitimate.  Instead, though, Hunter Addison of North Desoto upset Nastasi in the semifinals via a 3:19 fall.  Nastasi injured himself in the consolation semifinals and forfeited third-place to Brother Martin senior Quinn Williams.  And Williams had had trouble of his own at the LACL, losing to Kelly 1-0 in Tie-breaker #1 and then facing Rayne's Ryder Hawley in the consolation semifinals.  Kelly went on to defeat Addison 6-4, so the seeding went Kelly, Williams and Nastasi.  Kelly made the finals easily, and Nastasi made them easier than most would have thought due to a 7-2 win over Williams in the semifinals.

Williams made it through the consolation semifinals over sixth-seeded Voltaire Sanders of Zachary.  There he met pesky Holy Cross eighth-grader Nicholas DiGeralamo.  DiGeralamo, seeded seventh, lost to Williams 14-6 MD in the semifinals, but came back and scored three falls in under two minutes each to meet Williams again for third.  This time the two were tied entering the third period and Williams scored points via an escape and a penalty point for a 4-2 win.

Sanders found himself facing fifth-seeded Jalen Snyder of St. Amant for fifth-place.  Sanders and Snyder were 1-1 entering the event, with Sanders winning a 12-10 SV match in the Louisiana Classic.  Snyder defeated Sanders 9-5 in the quarterfinals and, in this match, beat him 9-3 to earn fifth.

Finals

Third-seeded Grant Nastasi of St. Paul defeated top seed Peter Kelly of Catholic 7-5.

Kelly's only two losses during the season came from Nastasi.  The first was a 5-3 decision on December 9th.  In this one, Nastasi scored a takedown with seven seconds remaining to tie the score and also exposed Kelly's back long enough to score the winning two nearfall points.  It was all too familiar ground for Kelly who, just as happened in the 2019-2020 season, won the Louisiana Classic but suffered a two-point loss in the state finals.
