Final records include Louisiana losses but all wins
Carencro’s Quinn Collins was 3-0, but of his opponents, only one competed in
the state championships and he did not place in Division III.
Collins placed fourth in the 2020 state championships, yet he was awarded
the #1 seed. Tre`Von Williams was
16-3 prior to the state championships.
One of those wins was a 2:42 fall over Teurlings Catholic’s Joel Lanclos
in the consolation finals of the Jacob McMillan Memorial.
Lanclos was 8-5, but last season he placed first in the JV state
championships. Williams should have
been the #1 seed with Lanclos second and then Collins.
But it was not seen that way by the seeding committee.
Hence, when Lanclos avenged his earlier loss to Williams with a
semifinals pin in 4:26, he was slated to meet Collins in the finals.
Collins, so far, looked like a #1 seed as he won his two pre-finals
matches in a combined time of 74 seconds.
Williams made it to the consolation finals where he
defeated #4 Christopher Rodriguez of Haughton 4-2.
Rodriguez had been upset by #5 Garrett Billeaud, a sophomore from North
Vermillion, in the quarterfinals.
Billeaud made it to the fifth-place match but lost to #7 Chad Gooden, Jr. of
Shaw in 1:45.
