Weight Class Synopsis

Basile sophomore Jay Guillory was 7-2, with his only losses coming from Division I opponents, so he earned top-billing.  Henry Hebert, a St. Louis freshman, was 7-6 and his losses only came from Division I and II opponents, plus he had a Brusly Invitational title.  Yet Hebert was seeded third, one behind Evangel’s Jeremiah Yearby who was 4-2.  Yearby should have been fourth and in third Nicholas Vu of Haynes seemed perfect.  He was 5-4 with losses to Division III opponents all coming at 120 lbs., from Kaul Kayser of Brusly (1st in Divisions III at 120 lbs.) and Hayden Meche of Church Point (4th in Division III at 120 lbs.).  Nobody was seeded fifth or sixth.

Guillory made the finals with a fall in 1:32 and an 8-5 decision over Vu.  Yearly, a seventh-grader, lost his semifinals match to Hannan freshman Seth Lowe.  He lost his consolation semifinals match to Vu, and then Lowe defeated him again to place fifth.  Again, though, Yearly is only in seventh-grade.

Vu advanced to the consolation finals where he defeated unseeded Bryce Oufnac of De la Salle in 1:41.

Finals

Third-seeded Henry Hebert of St. Louis gave the Saints their second consecutive title with a 13-4 major decision over top-seeded Jay Guillory of Basile

Hebert thoroughly outwrestled the Basile sophomore.  He won the first period 5-0 and the second period 5-2.  Guillory did better in the third period.  He only scored a reversal, as he did in the second period, but he held Hebert to only an escape and a takedown, and not three nearfall points.
