Final records include Louisiana losses but all wins
Nobody was ready for the onslaught of Basile's Baylor
Waggoner. His four matches averaged
a total of 41.5 seconds apiece.
Waggoner was 5-1 upon entering the state championships.
He placed second at the Jacob McMillan Memorial in December, falling to
St. Michael senior Shad Sheffie in 4:00 at 182 lbs.
Only Parkway Division I runner-up Steven Driggers went the distance with
Waggoner, losing 8-4. Nobody else
lasted past the first period.
Second seed Trace Morrow of Summerfield had defeated
third-seeded Jason Krail of De la Salle.
Krail placed second at the Brusly Invitational while Hannan's Patrick
Rist placed third, and was thus seeded fourth.
Rist had a win over Brusly's Aaron Couty, who was seeded fifth.
Five of the top seeds placed, albeit not in order.
Rist was upset by #5 Aaron Couty of Brusly 8-2 in the quarterfinals, but
would get another shot at Couty in the consolation finals.
Rist won that match via an 8-0 Major Decision.
To get to the consolation finals Rist pinned Krail in 4:05.
There he met Church Point's seventh-seeded Blaine Briscoe, who lost to
Couty a match earlier. Krail
prevailed in 3:33.
