Final records include Louisiana losses but all wins
John Curtis senior John Drake may not have had enough mat time this season to pose a greater risk to Division I and Division II notable 285 lbs. opponents, but he had all he needed to "lock-up" the top seed in the Division III state championships. His two losses were to eventual Division I state champion Gavin Soniat of East Ascension and Division I third-place winner Christian Mannino of Catholic (Drake defeated Mannino last season). He really just needed two matches, both of which he got at the Brusly Invitational when, in the semifinals, he pinned South Beauregard's Trey Jeffries in 2:56, and then in the finals when he pinned Brennan Cass of Church Point in 3:18. The only losses Jeffries and Kass had were to Drake in that event, and because Kass placed received the better seed.
The seeding of Kass and Jeffries, no matter which were second or third, meant
that, barring any upsets, those two would meet in the semifinals. They
did, and it was Jeffries prevailing by a fall in 4:47.
Kass ended up in third after a tough 3-2 match with (6) Denarious Robinson of
Brusly. Jackson was ousted from the placement matches by unseeded Billy
Broom, a senor from Bossier. Broom lost in 4:44 to Basile's (5) Anphrony
Guillory in the match for 5-th place.
