| Cowell and Wilson shine for Louisiana Silver - beat Florida All-Americans |

The Louisiana Silver team may not be the best team in the 2014 Alabama Dixie Duals, or even the best team hailing from Louisiana, But do not tell that to Brandon Cowell, Jack Fontenot or Kirk Wilson. Those three, representing Dutchtown, John Ehret and Dunham respectively, combined for a 12-0 record (four victories apiece) in Pool A competition on Saturday. Additional, Cowell (143 lbs.), Fontenot (150 lbs.) and Wilson (290 lbs.) defeated their opponents from the highly touted Brandon Wrestling Club, a suburb of Tampa, Florida. Two of those wins were over All-Americans requiring Sudden Victory periods. Cowell defeated Ty Lucas 7-5 and Fontenot squeaked past Tony Juncal 4-2. Wilson decided not to go an extra round, although he did use 99.44% of the regulation match time, scoring a fall over Dante Jiovenetta in 5:59. In fact, the Louisiana Silver team scored twice as many points as the two teams Brandon did not shut out, which each managed only six points apiece.
Only two Louisiana Silver wrestlers did not secure victories on Saturday, but 13 others did on the team which only has four seniors as well as three freshmen and a sophomore.
The team split their four dual meets on Saturday, defeating Central Alabama Black and Team X-2 (Alabama) while falling to the top two Pool A seeds, Brandon and Appalachian Elite Gold.
Louisiana Silver team members include three wrestlers apiece from Brusly and John Ehret, two from Jesuit and one apiece from Byrd, Dunham, Dutchtown, East Ascension, Holy Cross, Live Oak and Rummel.
Louisiana Silver will face the Alabama Red team that also a 2-2 Saturday record, defeating the same two teams Louisiana Silver beat. The Louisiana Silver team might be considered the favorite as, in the matches they won they beat their opponents 52-15 and 68-0, whereas the Alabama Red secured 39-30 and 34-33 victories against the same teams respectively. But this is a dual meet format and it is not safe to predict any results when the lineups are unknown.
