Forty-one Louisiana high school wrestlers comprising two all-star teams competed in the 8th Annual Alabama Dixie Duals, a dual meet tournament held in Hoover, Alabama. Coaches Carlos Bertot, Richie Dixon, Graham Karwath, J. P. Pierre, Greg Romano and Kenny Whittle divided the wrestlers into the Louisiana Green and the Louisiana Outcast. The Louisiana Green team consisted of 10 state champions crowned in February, five state runners-up and a smattering of other Louisiana wrestlers who fared well during the course of the regular season. The Louisiana Outcast team had five state champions, five runners-up among its19 members.
Louisiana Green
The Louisiana Green team placed third in the Pool Champions' Bracket on Sunday, defeating Team Texas 34-21. The team finished the tournament with a 6-1 dual meet record (including one bye), and won its "pool round" 5-0.
Team Louisiana Green team lost its first dual of the tournament in the Pool Champions' semifinals, falling to the team from Brandon, Florida 45-12. Louisiana Green was able to win only four of the 14 matches, each only decisions worth three team points, by Sidney Rodriguez, Brandon Luckett, Kyle Delaune and Gage Grush. Brandon went on to win the bracket with a 39-3 thrashing of the Alabama Black.
In the third place match Louisiana Green faced Team Texas, which the 2012 Louisiana Green team defeated by one point for the tournament championship last year. Louisiana Green started off in a bit of a predicament after Jacob Chenevert was pinned in 2:00 and Mitch Capella lost 10-4, spotting Team Texas a 9-0 lead. But Cody Hill, after a loss in the semifinals to a Brandon, Florida, opponent 7-2, started a string of four straight decisions by Louisiana Green. Hill won 7-2 and was followed by Paul Klein, a 4-3 winner. Connor Campo also rebounded from a 7-6 loss to a Brandon opponent (white smoke is rising from a smokestack somewhere in Florida), winning 6-3. Campo's win was followed by a 6-5 win by his St. Paul teammate David Englehardt. Then Sidney Rodriguez lost his first match of the weekend 2-1, and Kody Woodson of Shaw lost a close 7-5 match, giving Team Texas a 15-12 lead.
Then Louisiana Green turned on the afterburners. Brandon Luckett finished the weekend 5-0 with a 8-3 win and Daniel Albrecht followed with an 7-5 victory. Kyle Delaune scored a first period fall over his opponent and Gage Grush followed with a 16-4 major decision. Michael Yeatman pinned his opponent in the first period. Joshua Tapia, who wrestled well above his weight in both matches on Sunday, succumbed to a second period fall. But the damage had already been done, and Louisiana Green had a 34-21 victory.

Louisiana Outcast
The Louisiana Outcast team won fourth-place pool finishers' bracket on Sunday with a 52-21 victory over Team B East of Tennessee. In their semifinal match they defeated the Select Team from Alabama 66-12. Over the course of the weekend the Outcast won three of the seven matches in which they competed. But on Sunday, they went 2-0.
The Outcast started off well against the Tennessee team in the finals of their bracket with a 10-5 decision by Colt Olinde followed by a pin by Connor Stampley, to open with a 9-0 lead. But Baret Sanchez and Jacoby Guillory succumbed to falls and the Outcast were down 12-9. But after that the team would only suffer one loss and a forfeit. Trevor Schermer started their comeback with a fall and Brandon Cowell scored a major 14-0 decision. Kaleb Faul then scored a pin which was followed by a 7-3 decision by Koby Mancuso. After ceding a forfeit Brody Bonura fell in a high-scoring 13-8 match, but that was followed by a Marcantel pin, a forfeit for Calhoun, and pins by Daniel Kincade and Conor Karwath to seal the 52-21 victory.
Billy Marcantel led the Outcast with five pins versus one loss over the weekend. Alex Betteridge and Connor Stampley were 3-0 and Orlando Calhoun, Jr. went 3-1.
