Finals
Beau Bush (Holy Cross) defeated Colt
Olinde (Live Oak) 7-0 |
The Holy Cross junior countered one Olinde
double-leg attempt for a takedown in the first, and, after an escape,
countered another with a lateral drop for a takedown in the second to
take a 5-0 lead after four minutes. Opting to start standing in
the third, Bush scored on his own double-leg shot and rode Olinde out
for his second tournament championship and a 7-0 start to the season. |

Seeding Implications: This has been one difficult weight class
so far this season. It has a two-time Division III state champion
(Bushnell), two one-time Division III state champions (Austin Franklin of Brusly
and Logan Griffin of Thomas Jefferson) and a Division II state champion
(Olinde). Add to those the two Division I wrestlers who have won
tournaments involving those state champions, Brother Martin's Stephen Rumney
(Griffin Open champion) and Beau Bush of Holy Cross (Mandeville Open and Spartan
Open champion). The nod goes to Bush at the moment, as he beat the guy who
beat Bushnell in this event by a larger margin than by that which Rumney
defeated Bushnell in the Griffin Open finals. (FYI - the two did not meet
during the 2013-14 season.) Olinde, Wheat and Bushnell
come next, but that is apt to change come the Zachary Bronco Open and the Jacob
McMillan Memorial on December 20th.
