Finals
Collin Guerra (Holy Cross) defeated
Micah Roby (Baton Rouge) 7-0 |
Guerra ran his record to 6-0 and earned his
second tournament win. The two seniors were scoreless after the
first period but Guerra caught Roby riding high and reversed him in the
second, and then used a leg turk to put Roby on his back to add three
nearfall points. In the third period Roby started neutral but
Guerra tacked on a double-leg takedown to secure his 7-0 victory. |

Seeding Implications: Three 126 pound champions have arisen in
four tournaments, in Collin Guerra of Holy Cross (Mandeville and Spartan opens),
Nicholas Lirette of Hahnville (Griffin Open) and Nicholas Des Bordes of
Mandeville (Warrior Open). Guerra get the nod over Des Bordes due to his
Mandeville Open finals victory over the Skipper, but Lirette gets the nod over
Guerra as he posted a major 18-8 win over Roby in the Griffin Open finals,
whereas Guerra only defeated Roby 7-0. Josh Matthews of Catholic will
certainly make his presence known after third place finishes at the Spartan and
the Wildcat opens, and a runner-up finish at the Warrior (behind Des Bordes).
In all likelihood, though, Brother Martin's Division I runner-up Taylor Gambill
will get top billing when he enters a Louisiana tournament.
