Finals
Jacob Bernard
(East Ascension) defeated Joshua Averett (St. Amant) 9-0 |
Neither wrestler managed
a takedown in the first period. Bernard scored a quick escape in
the second for a 1-0 lead and followed it with a double-leg shot he
switched to a single and then back to a double for a takedown and a 3-0
lead. Near the end of the period Bernard used a tilt to add two
more backpoints to his total. He used it again early in the third
period and then rode Averett out to preserve his victory. |

Seeding Implications: Until further notice this weight class
pretty much belongs to Paul Klein of Brother Martin. But that conclusion
was reached last season as well until George Benoit went down to 132 and gave
Klein three very tough matches including Klein's only defeat. Klein has
gotten past Bernard once, but the two will probably meet again. Dylan
Soileau of Holy Cross won the Mandeville Open convincingly but was not available
for the Griffin. The clear number one contender, however, is Brusly
sophomore and Division III state champion Kendon Kayser. Should Kayser
remain at 132 pounds, he and Klein should meet each other at the Louisiana
Classic if not before at the Deep South Bayou Duals.
