Finals
Caleb Faul
(Dutchtown) defeated Josh Ramirez (Rummel) 3-1 |
Neither wrestler could
score a takedown in the first period. Faul started the scoring in
the second period with an escape after 20 seconds, but again nobody
could score a takedown so the round ended with Faul clinging to a 1-0
lead. Ramirez tied the score at 1-1 12 seconds into the third
period and it was not until less than 15 seconds remained in the match
that Faul was able to convert a single-leg shot into the match-winning
takedown. |

Seeding Implications: The 160 pounds weight class is anyone's
for the taking. Jack Fontenot of Ehret was the frontrunner going into the
Griffin Open with won two tournament titles. In the finals though, in an
even contest with Brother Martin's Danny Evans, Fontenot sustained an injury
which, while it did not prevent him from wrestling, it allowed Evans to easily
defeat him for the title. Fontenot and Evans are in one tier of top seeds,
albeit the extent of Fontenot's injury is as yet unknown and it is not a given
that Evans will remain at 160, and Evans gets the nod due to the Griffin win.
Ramirez has beaten Moss twice and Moss and Faul have split, plus Faul has a win
over Ramirez, hence picking a third seed will have to come down to last matches.
That makes it Faul, Ramirez and Moss...this week.
